My father left school aged 14 and started his working life in 1940, in the little grocers shop in the village of Ickham in East Kent. Dad always wanted to write his story encouraged by so many of his old customers, but didnt have the skill and today’s technology. I am fortunate to have an interest in local history and have written my childhood memoirs which tell his story. In the late 1990s he was interviewed by an old family friend, Mick Wigmore on camera. The result is below but please be aware the first few seconds the tape it very noisy but it settles when the title page starts. Also please bear in mind dad has no experience talking on camera so it sometimes get a bit slow but I think you will get the gist of what he is trying to explain.
